In 2016, the recycling rate of PET had dropped from 7.6% in 2015 to

5.8% in Hong Kong.

Recycling Challenges

In 2016, the recycling rate of PET had dropped from 7.6% in 2015 to 5.8% in Hong Kong.   5 - 6 million plastic bottles are thrown away daily. When stacked together they equal 2200x the height of ICC .
Lack of collection points, sorting facilities and plastic recycle plants, high cost of logistics to transport the recyclables from collection points to recycler, lack of incentives and education for the general public all contributed to the low recycle rate in Hong Kong. After China closed its door on accepting recyclables, we are left to deal with our own trash.
